| YOUTH TENNIS CAMPS & LESSON GROUPS IN ROCKFORD Youth tennis camps and lesson groups provide local opportunities to hit little yellow balls in a structured environment on a weekly basis. Instructors provide tips while directing drills and games that are skill-appropriate. Participants can improve their game at a fraction of the cost of private lessons while meeting fellow tennis enthusiasts. Summer youth tennis camps are held at Rockford College. Summer youth lesson groups are at the Guilford Tennis Center. – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – Tennis Camps for Children at Rockford College Local tennis professionals, Mark Johnson and Bobby Price, will offer three summer tennis camps for high school students at the Rockford College tennis courts. Mark Johnson is a full-time tennis pro certified by the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA). He has been teaching tennis at the Clock Tower Racquet Club for ten years. Bobby Price is the Girls Varsity Tennis Coach for Hononegah High School. He has been teaching tennis at the Boylan Tennis Club for four years. Their summer tennis classes are based upon ability rather than age. Participants may register for Session 1, Session 2 or both.
Beginner / Intermediate Camp for children ages 7+ Mondays – Thursdays from 11 a.m. – noon $145/20-class session or $250 for the summer This camp develops basic skills through drills and match play. Topics include good sportmanship, scoring and tennis rules. Advanced Camp for children ages 11+ Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. $200/15-class session or $350 for the summer This camp is best suited for kids who are not yet ready to hit with the big kids. Stroke consistency and shot selection are emphasized.
