| JULY 17, 2010 DOUBLES TOURNAMENT RESULTS Twenty-four people on 12 teams enjoyed doubles competition from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on July 17 at Jefferson High School. Eight teams competed in a Luck of the Draw tournament while four teams competed in a Round Robin Classic. Each team played three opponents. Matches consisted of a ten-game pro-set with regular scoring. In the Round Robin Classic, Dominik Dukala and Rudi Friedel defeated Janet Johnson & Chris Johnson 11 – 9 in the third round of play to post a 3 – 0 record with 18 games lost. Dukala and Friedel won first place. Close behind, Janet Johnson & Chris Johnson earned second place by posting a record of 2 – 1 while dropping only 17 games. Other teams inclueded Cheryl Clint/Dave Tubbs and Varad Srivastava/Shruti Marwaha. In the eight-team Luck of the Draw, top seeds Don Martinez/Andy Neyer and Gary Greenhow/Tom Hilbert were placed at opposite ends of the bracket while members of the six remaining teams drew a card to determine starting placement. Don Martinez and Andy Neyer defeated Gary Greenhow & Tom Hilbert 10 – 1 in the championship match to post a 3 – 0 record with 12 games lost. Three finalist teams posted 2 – 1 records so results were based upon fewest games lost. Gary Greenhow & Tom Hilbert earned second place by losing only 19 games. Close behind in a tie for third with 20 games lost each were the teams of John Montongnese-Bergamini/Katie King and Angelo Washington/Kristi Ransom. Other teams competing in Luck of the Draw included Lisa Dunlap/Ray Zeno, Nathan Shugart/Ander Smith, Rex Parker/Carol Parker and Yiwei Jiang/Lyle Ward. Rockford Tennis provided awards to top teams, complimentary snacks, balls and an opportunity for people to enjoy the company of fellow tennis enthusiasts. Special thanks to Jay Sandine of the Rockford Park District for letting Rockford Tennis borrow a sunshade; to Todd Zimmerman and Kevin Burdick of Jefferson High School for allowing Rockford Tennis to use the tennis courts and to Jo Marie Peterson for baking muffins. |
