YMCA OF ROCK RIVER VALLEY STARTS
NEW RALLEYBALL LEAGUE FOR KIDS
After checking in and receiving a free league t-shirt, children get a
junior-sized tennis racquet and a large, foam ralleyball.
Children line up to be divided into teams. While waiting, volunteer tennis coach, Mike Muldowney, fields an array of questions while one young player examines her tennis racquet.
To instill a sense of fun, head Clock Tower Racquet Club tennis pro, Cindy Nevenhoven, teaches children a game in which they stand in a circle balancing their tennis racquet on the floor with just one finger. At her signal, the kids move to the right trying to capture their neighbor's racquet with the same finger before it hits the floor.
Pam Delnagro, Executive Director of the USTA's Northern Illinois Tennis Association, plays an eye-hand coordination game with one young ralleyball player.
Coach Nevenhoven feeds a large, foam ball to two young players on one side of the portable net while two opponents wait to receive the ball on the other side.
Ralleyball is a fun, fast-paced game in which kids earn points every time they hit the ball. Teams of six rotate two at a time every time the kids on their side hit the foam ball.
