NORTHERN ILLINOIS PICKLEBALL
Pickleball participation is growing across the nation and within the greater Rockford metro area. Pickleball is similar to tennis and table tennis in that it's like playing tennis on a smaller court. The ball is a big, hard wiffle ball and the racquet is large, hard paddle. The sport is enjoyed in singles and doubles by people of all ages; however, it is especially attractive to those who enjoy tennis but want to cover less court.
Visit the USA Pickleball Association (USAPA) to learn about the sport's history and rules, to see a court diagram or to watch a video demonstration.
Local pickleball enthuisiasts meet and play at indoors and out nearly every day of the week. Guests are invited to drop-in and play; they may borrow a paddle. When playing at the Indoor Sports Center (ISC), players pay $5 for two hours and use paddles provided by the Rockford Park District.
Please see the Northern Illinois Pickleball (NIP) website for current play times or contact a local pickleball leader to join the fun in Rockford. To see a live demonstration of pickleball and meet local pickleball enthusiasts, attend a free information session.
