YMCA OF ROCK RIVER VALLEY STARTS NEW RALLEYBALL LEAGUE FOR KIDS
By Lisa Dunlap
On December 9, 2006, the YMCA of Rock River Valley launched a new ralleyball program for children ages 5 to 12.
The program is a joint venture between the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and the Rockford Park District.
Goals include teaching kids to grip a tennis racquet, to watch and hit the ball with their racquet and to move their feet.
Once basic skills are mastered, the game can be modified by replacing the large, foam ball with a regular tennis ball, making the court larger and teaching kids to serve from the back of the court.
The objectives of ralleyball are to introduce kids to tennis at an early age, to make tennis fun, to develop new players and to instill a life-long love for the game.
